Capturing Clean-Label Perfection: Behind the Scenes of Photographing Red’s All Natural Frozen Burritos

A Fresh Approach to Frozen Foods Photography

Package shots are the heart and soul of consumer packaged goods (CPG) marketing, especially in today’s competitive clean-label, frozen foods market. When Red’s All Natural, a brand synonymous with high-quality, all-natural frozen burritos, reached out in 2022, we knew we were in for a deliciously creative challenge.

Founded in 2009 by Mike Adair, Red’s All Natural started with a simple mission: to create a clean-label, all-natural frozen burrito that tasted as good as it was wholesome. And let me tell you—he succeeded. Red’s burritos are hands down the best I’ve ever eaten. So, when they approached us to photograph their frozen burrito line, we were thrilled to partner with a brand so dedicated to quality.

Pack Shots for the Frozen Foods Aisle at Costco

Our first project with Red’s All Natural focused on creating clean pack shots for their product boxes at Costco. They needed crisp, professional imagery that could stand out in the crowded frozen foods section. The initial round included three unique burritos, each photographed to highlight the quality and freshness Red’s is known for.

Since then, our collaboration has grown to photographing a wide variety of their products, including their breakfast sandwiches.

The goal of every shoot is to capture the authenticity of Red’s products while leaving plenty of room for branding, logos, and copy on the box.

The Importance of Lighting and Angles in Frozen Foods Photography

For any frozen foods brand looking to create stand-out images, lighting and angle are everything. We used large light sources set far away from the food to achieve the perfect balance of texture and even lighting. This technique ensures that every product—from the burritos to the breakfast sandwiches—looks mouth-wateringly fresh and appetizing.

We also worked closely with an amazing food stylist, Teressa Blackburn, to bring these burritos to life on set. Teressa’s attention to detail was key in ensuring every ingredient was perfectly placed, allowing us to build the burritos in such a way that they looked both natural and irresistibly delicious.

Tailoring Photography for Packaging and Branding Needs

One of the most important aspects of product photography for frozen CPG brands is ensuring the images work seamlessly with the packaging. During the shoot, we were mindful to frame each shot so that there was plenty of space for branding, logos, and product copy. This not only helps the design team at Red’s but also ensures the products look great in any retail setting, whether it’s on a shelf at Costco or in an e-commerce store.

So next time you’re walking through the frozen foods section at Costco, take a moment to check out Red’s All Natural frozen burritos. Not only will you get a taste of one of the best all-natural frozen burritos, but you’ll also see the results of our thoughtful, detail-oriented photography in action.
